Acutis finds a new way to support their local community

Updated: Mar 14, 2022

At Acutis, our core values remind us that our dedication to the community around us does not end at providing speedy, accurate testing. Our commitment to serving others extends beyond our day to day function, and reflects the greatest needs presented to us. When we refer to our Guiding Principle, “We move in sync,” we understand that this value encompasses more than the function within our internal team, but also within the community at large in which we participate.

During the holiday season, we are reminded annually of the needs of local families in our community. In 2020, the intrinsic need to help our neighbors has never felt stronger. Team Acutis was there to answer the call.

Acutis’ newly formed Social Responsibility Response Committee (SRRC) – a group developed to mobilize team Acutis to take part in bettering our communities through socio-economically, culturally, and environmentally-driven ventures – got to work developing the Acutis Thanksgiving Initiative. The goal of this initiative was to support our local community members during the Thanksgiving holiday season, by collecting essential items such as non-perishable food, toiletries, and personal protective equipment (PPE). The drive would benefit an organization local to our laboratory headquarters, the Mary Brennan INN in Hempstead, NY. The INN provides a broad variety of essential services to assist those challenged by hunger, homelessness, and profound poverty.

Over a series of four weeks, the team worked relentlessly to gather donations through an in-person food drive at our Acutis headquarters in Hicksville, NY, as well as a virtual food drive and donation platform through You Give Goods. At the conclusion of the event, we were humbled by the outpouring of support from Acutis team members and their friends and family. Overall, the team was able to collect 1,213 essential items, equating to about 585 pounds of food or 487 meals.

To be a part of team Acutis is to be a part of a community, within the walls of the lab, and outside of it. From our dedication to patient care through exceptional service and leading science, to our commitment to volunteerism and support of our community members, we are unwavering in the pursuit to surpass expectations. In these most uncertain times, our commitment remains steadfast.
