The Acutis Social Responsibility Response Committee (SRRC) hosted a blood drive at our corporate office with the New York Blood Center (NYBC), raising enough blood needed to save 135 lives.
Blood banks across the nation saw extreme shortages of donations because of the ongoing pandemic. The reality of this shortage coupled with the fact that someone needs blood every 2 seconds and 1 in 3 people will need a blood product in their lifetime under normal circumstances inspired us to take action.
The team got to work in partnership with local officials at the NYBC to bring a drive right to our own laboratory headquarters in Long Island, New York, a region hit hard by COVID-19 in early 2020. Despite new restrictions brought on by the pandemic, the drive was a great success, with many volunteers taking time to donate. In fact, about half of all Acutis donors were first time blood donors. At the conclusion of the event, the team’s donations proved to be staggering.
“Our colleagues have contributed immeasurably to fighting the pandemic over the past year and this is just another example of the altruism that makes me so proud to be a part of the Acutis family” shared Jibreel Sarij, CEO.
We encourage all organizations to take part in blood drives. If you’d like to learn more about hosting a blood drive, please visit the New York Blood Center website.
