COVID-19 Vaccines Updates | FDA

Amidst the confusion lingering around us about the COVID-19 vaccines and the need/no need for booster doses, which vaccine to get as a booster, etc., on October 12, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration amended the emergency use authorizations (EUAs) of the Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine, Bivalent and the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine, Bivalent to authorize their use as a single booster dose in younger age groups.

The Moderna vaccine is now authorized for administration at least two months after completion of primary or booster vaccination in children as young as 6 years of age, and the Pfizer-BioNTech one for administration in children as young as 5 years old, following completion of primary or booster vaccination. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) also expanded its recommendation for their use in children aged 5 through 11 years. Since the complete vaccination not only protects themselves but is also known to reduce the likelihood of the person transmitting the virus to their close contacts, scientists urge everyone, including younger children, to complete their COVID-19 vaccination not only to protect themselves but also for protecting other children, loved ones and several elderly and immunocompromised individuals in the community living with high-risk factors.
