During National Public Health Week, the American Public Health Association identifies areas of public health that are critical to our country's future success as a healthful nation.
Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, many of us witnessed the strain put on public health workers as many hospitals and care facilities faced increasingly difficult conditions. Today's theme – Public Health Workforce: Essential to our Future – allows us to show support for our healthcare workers and communities and learn how we can further support them and help them thrive, especially after helping us through the pandemic.
To enable the public health workforce to continue to foster the health of their community members, wherever they are, the APHA promotes:
· A more diverse healthcare workforce to improve outcomes in underserved communities
· Additional funding for programs to protect community physical and mental health
· The need for more skilled, motivated public health workers, as the pandemic highlighted a worker deficit in the industry
