The Guardian recently reported that while much healthcare funding has been allocated to COVID-19 pandemic prevention measures, STI rates are rising again. Experts say the rise in STI cases is the result of changing behaviors as pandemic-related restrictions lift nationwide, problems surrounding STI education and awareness, decreasing condom use, and issues within our public healthcare infrastructure.
Similar to other health epidemics, such as the opioid crisis and mental health conditions, the COVID-19 pandemic has negatively impacted the accessibility of testing, treatment, and other resources.
